Lou Gossett Jr. Diagnosed With Cancer

Tuesday, February 9, 2010 - 7:00 PM

Oscar-winning actor Lou Gossett, Jr. has been diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer, CNN reports.

A native of Brooklyn, Gossett, 73, announced his diagnosis today in Los Angeles where he told local reporters that he wanted to "set an example for the large number of African-American men who are victims of this disease because of the comparatively low emphasis in our community on preventative examinations and early treatment. I want to influence them to seek, as I have, the fine medical care and early detection now available."

Along with his Oscar-winning turn in "An Officer and a Gentleman," Gossett earned an Emmy Award for his work in the mini-series, "Roots."

You know this mom all too well: While getting ready in the morning, she's on her Blackberry. In between dinner and bedtime stories, she's shooting off a "quick" email or looking over a report. In fact, you just might fit the profile. As more of us move into spaces where "working" doesn't necessarily mean in the office, our work day is slowly extended into our family time. Perhaps no other device defines the era better than the ever addictive Blackberry.

Atlanta television and radio producer Nina Brown is a self-confessed Blackberry mom. Here she writes about the guilt of always having to be connected to her Blackberry while being mom to her son Jaylen.

Faith Evans Shopping A Reality Show On Her Comeback

Aside from her autobiography, "Keep the Faith," singer and widow to the Notorious B.I.G., Faith Evans has stayed away from the spotlight for the past few years. Ready for a comeback, the former first lady of hip hop has paired up with E1 Entertainment to create a reality show that will document her return.

"It's All About Faith" will follow the platinum-selling artist as she manages her life as a musician and as a mommy and wife to husband and manager, Todd Russaw. Evans and E1 are currently shopping for a network to air the show.
