This is a bit of a struggle for me, but I must speak the truth, in love. So, please don't charge my heart or shoot the messenger while I deliver a word of beauty advice.

I'm really tired of looking at bad weaves!

I see them in the airport, on the train, at the gym, and walking down the street. Oh, I can go on and on, but I'll fall back. My philosophy about the issue is this: whatever is done right, works and whatever is done out of ignorance, just leads to a bad presentation. In this case, it's a bad weave...

'Go There' Wednesdays: Jada's Braided Upsweep

At ESSENCE's Third Annual Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon last week, everyone looked good (and this is not a tooting-our-own-horn moment, check out pictures from the event!). But when Jada Pinkett Smith swanned in, all eyes were immediately on her glorious, Greek goddess hairdo.

At once Big Night Out fancy and shopping-with-the-girls cute, this curly upsweep was a definite attention-getter. The best part? Despite looking impossibly complicated, it's actually super-easy to pull off. To do: Create a deep side part, and then cornrow the front section from the part to your ear. Sweep the braid and the rest of your hair up in a high pony. Wind small, random sections of hair around a 1/2 inch barrel curling iron, and shake out with your fingers (or skip the drama and attach a curly hairpiece). Voila, instant chic!
