Prince celebrated the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain with a surprise late-night concert in Minneapolis with co-star, Apollonia Kotero. Kotero reportedly took to her Facebook account saying, “”4:42 A.M. in Minneapolis, just had a private concert by Prince and 3rdEyeGirl at Paisley Park…. Heard new music that was dope! He had a cool chair for me on the stage at his side and I sat there transfixed on every note, every move, every vocal. And Prince….my heart still skips a beat. K.Michelle has tapped Idris Elba to develop a stage show for her debut album Rebellious Soul. With a storyline based on the lyrics of her album, K.Michelle will star in the play directed by Elba. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, the musical will air on VH1. [ThatGrapeJuice]
Mos Def and Talib Kweli joined Dave Chappelle to close out his Radio City Music Hall run. Chappelle managed to get Mos Def back to America following the cancellation of his U.S. tour last month due to speculated troubles getting back into the country. Instead, it turns out there was simply a scheduling conflict. Mos Def and Talib Kweli performed “Definition,” “History” and a cover of the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Juicy.” [Vibe]
After a busy weekend in New York, Erykah Badu had a little fun and attempted to kiss local news reporter Mario Diaz during his broadcast. The singer made a few hand gestures behind him and moved towards him with outstretched arms and puckered lips, only to be swiftly rejected by him.
