Things got a tad bit awkward during part two of the Real Housewives of Atlanta season 11 reunion. Nene Leakes was joined on stage by her husband Gregg Leakes, and it seems the future of their marriage is still on shaky ground.

During the season, Nene has been very expressive about how Gregg’s cancer diagnosis has put a strain on their relationship. She says, at times, the stress of the disease causes him to be “mean” towards her. Unfortunately, things don’t seem to be getting much better. The couple told host Andy Cohen that they’re sleeping in separate bedrooms and have turned to counseling for help. When asked if there’s hope that the marriage can be saved, Nene’s answer casted doubt. “I can’t tell you anything that I’m going to do,” she said. “I feel like I have been pushed up against a wall and I’m coming out as ‘no.’ … Anything is possible, we just have to see.”

Nene’s frustrations with Gregg have been public knowledge for quite some time. Back in November, she tweeted, “I would just think if I have or had cancer, I would see life so differently! Not being mean, grouchy and evil for no real reason! But that’s me. Pray for me.”

Despite receiving some backlash from her castmates for airing out her grievances on social media, Gregg took a moment to stand up for his wife.

“It was difficult at times,” he admits “I’m not a poster child for kindness…Nobody’s perfect. There was [sp] some times, but most times it was on me.”

No matter what happens, Gregg, who recently celebrated the end of chemotherapy, says he cannot picture life without Nene.

“The reward might not necessarily be that we are husband and wife at the end,” he says. “The reward might be that we are best of friends at the end.”

For Nene, the feeling is mutural. “It’s tough. We are family, period. Whether we are together or we are not, we share a 20-year-old son. I’m always going to be here for Gregg.”
