When Yandy Smith and her then-fiancé Mendeecees said “I do” in an opulent Love and Hip-Hop wedding special, the convenent the couple made was before God, family and friends, who recognized their union as one.
The only party that doesn’t recognize their union is the government.
As it turns out, those pesky claims that Yandy and her man weren’t legally married have some truth to them and she recently confirmed the news.
During the recent episode of the VH1 hit reality drama series, Smith sat with her friends Kimbella and JuJu and spilled all of the tea.
“I do not have a contractually binded agreement with the government between my husband and I,” she shared. “But me, Mendeecees and God, absolutely have an agreement. I didn’t send off the paperwork. I signed it, our officiant signed it [but] I never sent it off.”

Mendeecees who is dealing with his own legal woes, including his current prison stint along with issues with his other children’s mothers, Yandy simply didn’t want her own finances to muddle with his, taking away from what she could provide for her own family.
“I’m not saying my finances are more important than my marriage; that’s not the case,” she continued. “I don’t want to be persecuted for not sending the paperwork off but I have very good reasoning and that was all to protect my family.”
