Cardi B is notorious for constantly switching up her hair. We’ve seen the rapper and new mom rock everything from waist-length extensions to a short and sleek bob. And while she can pull off pretty much any style it’s her latest ‘do that has us completely in love. Cardi recently took to Instagram to debut electric blue, coined #bardiblue, straight tresses. A color that’s a first for the Invasion of Privacy star.

Upon seeing the mesmerizing blue shade we had to know who the mastermind was behind the ‘do. It was soon confirmed that 21-year-old hairstylist and rap artist Cliff Vmir had dreamed up the new ‘do for Cardi. We caught up with Vmir to learn how she got her start in the industry and what it’s to work with one of today’s biggest rap artists.
ESSENCE: So tell us, how did you get your start working with hair? Cliff Vmir: I started practicing on Barbie dolls and mannequins at the age of nine. From there, I went to vocational school for cosmetology and evolved from working with everyday clients to top celebrities such as Cardi B, Joseline, Jazmine Sullivan, and others.

The look that still has me #shook! I’m still in l-o-v-e with this uber fab blunt cut bob with a middle part I created on #joseline at the 2017 BET Awards! I can’t wait to show you guys how to slay your lace closure with @outre_hair and style it with @mylucidbliss products at @beautybiznetwork’s Live Lace and Styling Look & Learn on August 19th! That’s an impressive roster. When and how did your relationship with Cardi B begin? I started working with Cardi in the very beginning of her career before Love & Hip Hop New York. I do her hair from time to time, and I love how she lets me be creative. My hairstyles always compliment her personality—which is fun and lit! We love your latest creation. What was your process for creating the wig? I created Cardi’s custom unit with hair from my [line of hair products], Hym Hair. I used the brand KISS Colors mixed with a lot of conditioners to achieve Cardi’s striking baby blue color.

What advice do you have for women who are afraid to rock brightly colored hair? I would tell them not to be scared, rocking brightly colored hair will definitely bring out your inner [self]. It will make you feel more confident, sexy, and vibrant. Last but not least, what’s next for you? You can definitely expect more music from me and to see me on reality TV. I am also re-launching new hair textures from Hym Hair and launching my line of fierce lashes, Hym Lashes.
