“Luther is such a visceral show, and we really take the audience there.”
We last saw Idris Elba paying sartorial tribute to Cruella de Vil in Macklemore’s “Dance Off” music video, but it seems like the dapper gent is hanging up the black and white fur to return to his detective uniform in Netflix’s Luther. In an interview with THR, Elba talks the dark side of playing DCI John Luther.
“Just the process of being a murder detective is a deep, dark place to go to,” he shares. “Luther is such a visceral show, and we really take the audience there.”
And like most great performers who really embody the characters they portray, Elba acknowledges the impact Luther’s work and life has on him.
“I end up living through some of this stuff that Luther ends up seeing, and that isn’t necessarily fun. The character is dark. He has a lot of demons. You do end up taking some of that home with you,” said Elba.
Luther is now in its fourth season on Netflix.
