"Guerilla" will follow a politically active couple whose relationship is tested when they help free a political prisoner.
Idris Elba and John Ridley are headed to Showtime with a civil rights drama called Guerilla.
The limited series will include six episodes about a politically active couple whose relationship is tested when they free a political prisoner and form a radical group in 1970s London. Their target eventually becomes the Black Power Desk, a true-life, secret counter-intelligence group dedicated to crushing Black activism. Elba's role has not been announced and the couple has yet to be cast.
Ridley is set to direct the first two episodes and write a majority of the series. Showtime CEO and president David Nevins stated,
"We’re excited to partner with our friends at Sky to bring a fascinating and unexplored story spearheaded by John and Idris, two major creative talents at the top of their game. Guerilla will surely keep our audience at their edge of their seats."
