There are probably three people on the planet who have the power to cause the type of feverish excitement that creates a several month-long waitlist for $38 lipstick and $72 highlighter. One of those individuals is of course makeup trailblazer Pat McGrath.
When her namesake line Pat McGrath Labs launched in 2015, beauty lovers everywhere completely lost their minds; so much so that her site crashed. Two years later and it’s still almost impossible to score pieces from the limited-release collections (MatteTrance singles are still sold out on the site).

Thankfully, the queen of makeup is releasing a permanent “unlimited” collection that will be available year-round.
“All along I’ve done about five makeup lines that I’ve put away because they’ve looked like everyone else’s. I wanted to do something authentic,” McGrath told WWD. As with all things Ms. McGrath, it’s safe to expect the unexpected when it comes to the collection’s shades and textures.
“A lot of these colors are my all-time colors for the last 25 years…[you can] shop my archive. I re-created shadows that I had to make to get that beautiful, rich seductive brown or that incredible metallic gold pigment that doesn’t exist unless it’s made out of eight different formulas,” she explained to WWD.
But if the creamy textures and rich shades of past products are any indication, it’s safe to assume that latest round will also be Black girl-approved and compliment a wide range of complexions.
40 shades of lipstick in two finishes will be released on patmcgrath.com on Sept. 16, followed by the release of a mascara, 11 lip liners, 5 eyeliners and 3 eyeshadow palettes. A secret pre-sale will also be going down via an e-mail invite, but Pat has yet to give specifics just yet.
MatteTrance and 31 LuxeTrance Lipsticks will retail for $38 each, the eye and lip pencils along with the mascara will retail for $25 each, while the Mothership Eye Palettes will go for $125. Needless to say these products are not your run-of-the-mill drugstore beauty products. So mark your calendars and get your coins ready!
