Another big name is coming to the NAACP Image Awards.
The NAACP announced last week that renaissance man Spike Lee will be honored at this year’s 46th annual ceremony. The writer-director, actor, producer and author will be honored with the President’s Award, which recognizes people who have accomplished special achievements and have served their community. Previous honorees include Soledad O’Brien, Ruby Dee, Muhammad Ali, Kerry Washington and former President Bill Clinton.
“Spike Lee is a trailblazer and a champion for minorities,” NAACP President and CEO Cornell William Brooks said in a statement. “His expansive body of work examining race relations, colorism in the Black community, the role of media in contemporary life, urban crime and poverty, and other political issues reflect the fullness of the humanity of people of color—particularly African-Americans.”
The NAACP Image Awards will air live on Friday, February 6 at 9 p.m. ET.
