Childish Gambino has made Grammy history. The rapper’s single “This Is America” took home Song of the Year at the Grammys on Sunday. This marks the first time in Grammy’s history that a hip-hop song has taken home the award. Gambino was not in attendance to accept the award. He also took home Best Music Video and Best Rap/Sung Performance for “This Is America.”
It was previously reported that Gambino along with Drake and Kendrick Lamar turned down the opportunity to perform at the Grammys and reps declined to comment on whether the artists would attend the event. In a surprise twist, Drake actually showed up. While we’re sad we missed a Childish Gambino performance, we’re happy to see the rapper making history.
