Kelly Rowland Remembers The Gabrielle Union Speech That Gave Her Chills: 'It Was Like She Was Reading My Journal"

Kelly also spoke on feeling like 2019 will be an exceptionally special year for excellence among Black women.
By Rachaell Davis · Updated December 6, 2020
As host of this year’s ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood Awards, Kelly Rowland was funny, fabulous and all things Black Girl Magic. While reminiscing on her very first time attending the event, Kelly took us back to Gabrielle Union’s unforgettably powerful acceptance speech as a 2013 ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood honoree and how the feeling in the room was overwhelming as Gabby fearlessly poured her heart out to an audience full of her peers. The stunning songstress and actress also weighed in on the feeling that excellence among Black women is headed to even higher heights in 2019. Check out the video above to hear what Kelly had to say and then click HERE to see Gabrielle Union’s BWIH speech that left her in awe.
