[SOUND] [MUSIC] Hey, what's happening Essence? I'm your girl Dana Blair and this right here is seven things we're talking about. Jumping right into number one, Ava Duvernay's limited edition Barbie doll sold out in record time. Some reports say in as little as 17 minutes, but the director was still celebrating having a doll made in her likeness on Good Morning America this week, calling into the morning show's [UNKNOWN] new segment to talk about the Barbie. The [UNKNOWN] filmmaker said that while she was a A big Barbie girl growing up. None of the ones she had look like me. I think we all have been there, so with the opportunity to create a doll who had brown skin and natural hair and was directing her own movie, that was an incredible opportunity. So I went for it, said [UNKNOWN] As to why she helped design a doll that looked just like her. She explained that she particularly appreciated the doll's hair and her director's chair. No updates on if the Barbie will be back on shelves in the near future. Apparently, it was a limited run. But this definitely opens the doors for more diverse Barbies in the future. Congratulations Ava. Next up, Grammy nominations are out and everyone is talking about our favorite butterfly, Kendrick Lamar with 11 nominations. The Weekend earned seven. Taymar Braxton and DeAngelo also received some nods, but what really, I mean really had social media talking is Drake's nomination for his Meek Mill dis track. Wasn't even trying, and homeboy hit it out the park. And [UNKNOWN], feeling snubbed for [UNKNOWN], calling it one of the greatest R&B collaborations ever. I mean really. Remember those patty sweet potato pies that we were talking about just before Thanksgiving Essence. The ones that were selling out a pie a second, yes, you heard me right, at Walmarts nationwide a pie a second. Well, I have an update for you. Superfan James Wright was thanking his lucky stars, or just thanking Jesus, for making that review on Patti LaBelle's now famous sweet potato pies. Not only has he become a viral sensation, he has also formed a close friendship with the Grammy Award winning singer after being personally invited to her home this past Thanksgiving. Now, the sweet potato pie lovers are coming to a kitchen near you. According to reports Patty and James will be filming a holiday special set to air on the cooking channel. And yes, they will be making some sweet potato pie. Now that is something to sing about. Speaking of new shows, Monique and her hubby are bringing their highly publicized open marriage to the airwaves. The oscar winning actress and comedian announced on twitter last week that her and her boot bang Sydney Hicks will post a relationship podcast scheduled to launch in January. Monique tweeted, and I quote, Podcast coming January 11, 2016. Monique and Sidney's open relationship. Real conversations, real honesty and all love. You can read more of the inside scoop on what to expect right here on Never been one to hold her tongue and she is finally speaking out about her shady experience with co-host on The View back in November. They were not kind to me Leakes explains. So watch what happens. Live host Andy Cohen about the show's host which include Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Candace Cameron-Bure, Raven Symone and Paula Ferris. It was more than Joy. Joy was definitely was throwing a lot of shade, but there was someone else on the panel that threw a lot of shade as well as far as looking me up and down said Leakes. When Cohen remarked, you're talking about Raven-Symoné? Leakes didn't hesitate. Probably, she replied. And Leakes couldn't resist one last dig, and I quote I know all of them are tired. Their hairstyles are tired, their make-up is tired, you know whatever she said, waving her hands dismissively as Cohen laughed. In the words of my girl Mimi, boop. [LAUGH] Next up King James has done it again. Nike has signed Cleveland Cavaliers forward Lebron James to a lifetime deal, in what one source familiar with the negotiations said, is the largest Single athlete guarantee in company history. We can confirm that we have agreed to a lifetime relationship with LeBron that provides significant value to our business, brand, and shareholders, Nike said in a statement. We have already built a strong LeBron business over the past 12 years. And we see the potential for this to continue to grow throughout his playing career and beyond. A company spokesperson would not say how much Nike paid, and it is believed to be the first lifetime deal in the shoe and apparel company's 44 year history. According to ESPN, a source close to the deal told ESPN that it easily surpasses the ten year $300 million deal Oklahoma City Thunderford Kevin Durant signed with the largest shoe and apparel Brand last summer. I mean, hello. That's coin. And last, but certainly not least, Queen Latifah, fresh off a featured spot as the title character in NBC's The Wiz Live, has been cast in the lead role of Empire co-creator Lee Daniels' new music pilot for Fox The total piolet, which has, at times, been referred to as star focuses on three young women who form a girl group in hopes to rise to stardom. Those three roles also have been filled, but piolet which could lead to a series is set to begin production this month in Atlanta. Latifa will play Carlota. The owner of an Atlanta beauty salon with an amazing voice will become a surrogate mother to the three girls, even though she doesn't approve of their musical dreams. We will keep our eyes on this one, Essence. Daniels may have another hit on his hands. All right, well there you have it. That is seven things we're talking about. I'm Dana Blair, and I will see you here next time on
