Nicknamed the female Michael Jordan, Swoopes was the first female basketball player to sign an endorsment deal with Nike. She also won three Olympic gold medals, and is a three-time WNBA MVP. So, it comes as no surprise that Swoopes has been voted into the Basketball Hall of Fame of 2016.

“I am so thrilled and honored to be here in Houston to be named a Hall of Famer. This is the city where I accomplished so much during my professional career with the Houston Comets,” said Swoopes, now the Loyola University women’s basketball coach.

The Brownfield, Texas native joins Allen Iverson, Shaquille O’Neal, Tom Izzo, Yao Ming and Jerry Reinsdorf as a 2016 inductee.
