Last Monday, Clear Channel dropped a bomb when they moved “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” into radio host Tom Joyner’s slot from sister station WGCI-FM 107.5 in Chicago. Now, followers of Joyner’s syndicated radio show are speaking out against Clear Channel’s decision to pull the plug. Alpha Kappa Alpha’s international president, Barbara A. McKinzine, sent an e-blast to about 225,000 AKA members worldwide urging them to respond to the company’s decision. In her letter, McKinzine expressed her disappointment in Clear Channel executives’ narrow-minded marketing mindset, viewing the Black community as one-sided. She did acknowledge Steve Harvey as a talented man but said his show was completely different from Joyner’s. Adding, Clear Channel should embrace the diversity of both shows. She encouraged members to write letters to the company explaining their outrage, especially those in the Chicago area to take a stand against what she calls an act of bad business suggesting that “all Blacks think alike.”—JW
