What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
People told me that I was on the right track and that I should just trust my instincts. They said I should continue to be who I am and not try to follow any particular molds or try to evolve into something someone else wants me to be.
Your Black Girl Magic moments?
Performing at the BET Awards for Janet Jackson. She is such an icon for Black women. And landing a contract with MAC Cosmetics [for its Future Forward campaign]. Everyone in this [ad series] is a woman of color. It’s really cool.
How do you chart a beautiful life?
Embrace what you have. Rock your assets and the things that make you appealing, that make you stand out, that make you different.
