Nothing like some seasonal decor to get you in the holiday spirit. “The View” co-host Sherri Shepherd recently opened up her Harlem brownstone for a seasonal makeover from decor expert Michael Russo as part of HGTV’s “Celebrity Holiday Homes.” On the one-hour special airing this Saturday, Russo gave Shepherd’s home a jazz-inspired theme to compliment Harlem’s rich history. “It’s like Christmas in Harlem back in the golden era so there’s a lot of gold ribbons, and they brought in ornaments shaped like jazz instruments because the brownstone used to be a nightclub,” says Shepherd. An avid fan of shows about celebrity homes, Shepherd says that although she is famous, she wanted viewers to see how they could also give their homes a seasonal makeover without breaking the bank. “I didn’t want all this expensive stuff in there,” she says, “and the team gave me some really great ideas.” One of them was spray-painting balloons with gold paint and tying ribbons around them so they could look like ornaments (pictured above). “The finished product was not a lot of money and I was able to do this myself,” says Shepherd, clearly elated. To see how Shepherd gave her Harlem brownstone some holiday cheer, be sure to check out HGTV’s “Celebrity Holiday Homes” this Saturday, Dec. 4th at 8pm.
