Sesame Street Teaches Girls To 'Love Their Hair'

If we didn't already adore Sesame Street, we're now obsessed. The classic children's show recently aired a vignette with a darling, afro'd little girl puppet singing a song called "I Love My Hair." Crooning pro-Black-girl lyrics like "Don't need a trip to the beauty shop/'Cause I love what I got on top/It's curly and it's brown and it's right up there/I love my hair," the muppet makes an endearing, profound case for why little girls of color should feel beautiful rocking their hair, no matter the texture. We teared-up a little watching the video because, well, can you imagine how differently women of past generations would feel about themselves had they heard songs like this as a child? Tell it, Sesame Street! Here's what you had to say: Lynette commented via Facebook: "This is a great inspirational tool for young ladies!" Nadia wrote via Facebook: "I shared this with my 12-year-old daughter."
