Today’s high school students have read about segregation in the United States, but have never experienced the kind of life where they were denied access on a daily basis because of their race. That changed when seniors at Severn School in Annapolis, Maryland, hosted “Segregation Day” for the entire school and students were given a color pass which determined which hallways, doors, stairs and tables they could use, according to HometownAnnapolis.com. Although the school has 29 Black students, all 408 students participated and were denied access because of the color of their wrist band. Many students responded that they could feel the weight of Jim Crow at the end of the day – and didn’t like it one bit. -CJ
