Fans around the world are floored after discovering that their darling show’s last days are fast approaching. CBS’s daytime soap opera “Guiding Light,” the longest running television show in history, will bid its final farewell in September after 72 years on air. In addition to the program’s decline in ratings, the network is feeling the effects of the recession and is opting for a low-cost replacement for the show. Actors like Billy Dee Williams, James Earl Jones, Ruby Dee and Cicely Tyson all utilized “Guiding Light” as a stepping stone for their budding careers. Tune in to CBS on Friday September 18 to watch Lawrence Saint-Victor and Yvonna Wright take their final bow.—PS
