Is Ryan Coogler planning to decline the Academy’s invitation to join? Maybe.
Sources have revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that the acclaimed filmmaker has yet to accept his invitation and really has no interest in joining.
Could you blame him?

Back in June, the Academy announced that it had invited 683 people to join including Idris Elba, Regina King, and Michael B. Jordan. Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs has also vowed to push for diversity in the organization.
However, Coogler’s decision not to join may have nothing to do with diversity. Sources have hinted that Coogler just isn’t interested in judging other people’s work.
The filmmaker is currently working on Marvel’s Black Panther and has a pretty busy schedule. Chances are, he just hasn’t had time to respond the Academy’s invitation.
Whatever the case, we can’t wait for the filmmaker’s next project to drop.
