Russell Simmons is perhaps the most involved and dedicated celebrity connected to the Occupy Wall Street protests in Zuccotti Park in New York City. Just yesterday he was prepared to be hauled off to jail like hundreds of other protesters.

According to Perez Hilton, New York Mayor Bloomberg ordered that Zuccotti Park be cleaned up — meaning protestors would need to exit the park. Simmons urgently tweeted him and pleaded to avoid confrontation. “@MikeBloomberg Don’t you think clean-up is ruse and a way around the free speech and assembly issue” he tweeted.

Thankfully Bloomberg canceled the clean up leaving protestors unharmed and undisturbed by city workers. Simmons himself offered to pay for the clean up and even promised to go to jail with fellow protestors if they were placed under arrest for refusing to leave the park.

“I’m one of the 100% if any people suffer I suffer #occupywallstreet,” Simmons later tweeted.
