The NoVo Foundation just made a history-making donation specifically designated to improving the lives of girls and women of color.
NBC News reports that the foundation, which is run by the son of billionaire Warren Buffett and committed to advancing the equality and well-being of women around the world, just pledged to invest a whopping $90 million in grassroots and policy organizations that advocate for girls and women of color.
“This work is about dismantling the barriers that prevent them from realizing that potential and leading us toward a truly transformative movement for change,” NoVo Foundation co-president Jennifer Buffett said in a statement.
The initiative, which well be spearheaded by women, will officially kick off this summer by hosting learning sessions from women of color who have often been left out of policymaking conversations. The sessions will point the foundation in the right direction and let them know what needs to be done.
“We hope this kind of broad-based, fundamental change will impact girls and young women in communities of all kinds across the country, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that all girls and women can unlock their full potential,” NoVo Foundation Executive Director Pamela Shifman said in a statement. “Now is our chance to work together to harness this moment and ensure it is translated into long-term, meaningful change.”
