Robin Roberts Is Almost 100 Percent Back to Normal

It’s been nearly a year since Robin Roberts underwent a bone marrow transplant for her myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).

Today, months after returning to work part time, Roberts says she’s almost completely back to normal. “I’m really at peace now,” said Roberts to People. “I’m not as frightened. I feel 90 percent of myself again and that’s a great feeling.”

She plans to return to work a full five days a week right after Labor Day. “I’m looking forward to it. I want to get back to my full life,” she said.

Roberts has been well on her way to achieving that top level of health. She and a group of friends recently traveled to Maui for a little vacation. There she was able to play tennis for the first time in more than a year. “To be able to feel stronger and a little more active, it’s great to feel that way again.”

It was announced earlier this year that Roberts will be penning a memoir to be released in 2014. Although much isn’t known about the project, it will detail her fight against MDS.
