Robin Givens is opening up about her sister Stephanie’s tragic death from cancer two years ago.
“My sister was my very best friend in the world,” Givens told PEOPLE. “Her passing was a shock. I had someone describe it to me like losing somebody in a car accident. I was so devastated.”
The actress revealed that her sister had gone to the doctor and was told her symptoms were probably just from the flu; even Givens admits that he sister didn’t look sick at all. But within a week she got the diagnosis and passed away—all within a weekend. “It all happened so quickly that it’s hard for me to even know what happened,” Givens recalls.
It was an understandably tough time for the 52-year-old actress who admits she got through it by staying strong for her sons and mother. Now she honors her sister by focusing on the happy times they had together.
“I remember the last Christmas we spent together. She came out to Los Angeles and we went to the Ritz-Carlton. It was beautiful here and we had champagne outside and then went to a Korean spa. It was so much fun.”
