The Reverend Jeremiah Wright became a household name during the election once his impassioned sermons on race became viral, making former church member President Barack Obama cut ties from his mentor and friend. The civil rights activist warned attendees at the 44th anniversary of the March to Selma, Alabama, not to look to the new President as a savior, according to the Associated Press. A crowd of more than 700 attended the opening event to commemorate the historic demonstration for voting rights, and programs featured an image of Mr. Obama and Rev. Wright together.—CJ
