Johannes Mehserle, the Oakland transit officer who is charged in the New Year’s Day shooting and murder of unarmed 22-year-old Oscar Grant, has made bail. He is now out after posting 10 percent of a $3 million bond, according to MSNBC.com. Protesters have been consistently making their feelings known in both peaceful and violent displays and clashed with Oakland police again last week when it was made public that Mehserle would be allowed to make bail. Mehserle’s attorney contends that the transit officer mistakenly pulled out his gun when he meant to use his stun gun instead. Mehserle has pleaded not guilty to one count of murder.—WLW
