Hey, McConnell, people want their 40 acres and a mule, not 40 acres and an Obama.

In today’s “Sounds About White” news, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had some interesting comments when it comes to reparations. On Tuesday afternoon, McConnell was questioned by reporters about his thoughts on reparations, and PBS New Hours’ Judy Woodruff tweeted out his reply.

“We’ve tried to deal with our original sin of slavery by fighting a civil war, passing landmark civil rights legislation,” he said. “We’ve elected an African American president. We are always a work in progress in this country, but nobody alive currently is responsible for that and I don’t think we should be trying to figure out how to compensate for it.”

McConnell’s response comes a day before the House Judiciary subcommittee’s hearing, attended by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Danny Glover, on legislation that would create a commission to study reparations for slavery.

Not that we should be shocked by McConnell’s response, but how hard would it be to compensate everyone? I’m sure it could be just as easy as these Social Security and other taxes that are taken out of my paycheck every month.
