After a drawn out and continual race to White House, Donald Trump has opted to cut ties with his campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski.
Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump now has one less person on his campaign team.
As the 2016 race to the White House prepares to enter its final chapter, it was confirmed on Monday that Trump had abruptly fired his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. “The Donald J. Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican Primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign,” Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks confirmed in a statement on Monday. “The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future.”
The firing comes amid growing concerns from the GOP officials and Trump’s donors about Lewandowski’s handling of Trump’s campaign in recent months.
According to the NY Times, Trump’s children were also among those who had expressed doubts about Lewandowski being able to properly lead Trump’s campaign as he prepares to face presumptive democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the general election this fall.
Many in Trump’s camp supposedly considered Lewandowski a relatively inexperienced pick for a campaign manager as he had not previously managed a national political campaign, but despite the controversial nature of his time with the team and sudden dismissal, Lewandowski doesn’t seem to be harboring any negative feelings about the situation’s ending. “I had a nice conversation with Mr. Trump, and I said to him, ‘It’s been an honor and a privilege to be a part of this,’ and I mean that from the bottom of my heart,” he told CNN’s Dana Bash. Lewandowski does, however, maintain that he doesn’t know why he was fired.
While the removal of his campaign manager is a significant change in Trump’s campaign, as even those in his own party have pointed out, there’s certainly a need for much, much more change needed from Trump himself if he hopes to better his campaign going into the general election.
