Octavia Spencer is on top of the world tonight!
The 2012 ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood honoree won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as maid Minny Jackson in The Help. “I share this with everyone,” said an emotional Spencer upon receiving her Oscar.
If you think she’ll be sitting at home in the coming months, think again. Spencer has several movies lined up — she’ll play a “modern-day nurse Ratched” in Lost on Purpose, and will star in the sci-fi indie thriller Snow Piercer.
As a gift to herself, the actress revealed, she will be getting a post-Oscar breast lift for all her success. “That’s going to be my first gift. I’m going to do that. I figure going into my 40s I want my boobs where they were when I was 17,” she told Parade.
Spencer is the fifth African-American actress to walk away with the Best Supporting Actress title. Previous winners include Mo’Nique (2009), Jennifer Hudson (2006), Whoopi Goldberg (1991), and Hattie MacDaniel (1940).
