“I named the song ‘Divorce Papers’ to throw it back in everyone’s face,” said Cannon. “The media made up a lie that I was holding up the process saying I wouldn’t sign the divorce papers. So I was like, ‘You want ‘Divorce Papers’ well here you go!’”
He attributes most of his frustration to his interactions with lawyers.
“The lawyers line was also me releasing a little frustration at the attorneys on both sides because lawyers always think they control the clients and they cause most of the friction especially since my ex and I get along. So ultimately the writing process was and continues to be therapeutic for me. “
He and Mariah Carey split up in 2014, filing for divorce January 2015. Cannon recently released “Divorce Papers” detailing the aftermath of his split with Mariah.
