It has been 50 years since iconic civil rights activist Malcolm X was assassinated, but his teachings live on.

A New York man recently discovered what appears to be a forgotten letter written by Malcolm X during his 1964 pilgrimage to Mecca, reports the Huffington Post. The letter went on sale for a whopping $1.25 million over the weekend, but its content was more incredulous.

In the letter, Malcolm recommends that if Americans embraced the religion of Islam, racism could be solved.

“…with racism now plaguing in America like an incurable cancer all thinking Americans should be more respective to Islam as an already proven solution to the race problem,” he wrote.

He says that Black “animosities” are a result of “conscious racism” thrust upon them by White Americans.

“But as America’s insane obsession with racism leads her up the suicidal path, nearer to the precipice that leads to the bottomless pits below, I do believe that Whites of the younger generation, in the colleges and universities, through their own young, less hampered intellects will see the “Handwriting on the Wall” and turn for spiritual salvation to the religion of Islam, and force the older generation to turn with them,” he wrote.
