Every year, the National Urban League, the country’s oldest and largest community-based organization devoted to empowering African-Americans, measure the state of Black Americans in the United States. Their latest report released less than surprising information, including the fact that African-Americans are suffering the most during the country’s harsh economic climate. The report measures everything from disparities in health to education, includes essays from experts, and letters about the condition of African-Americans. All material is directly addressed to President Obama.
“The election of the first Black President does not mean we can all now close up shop and go home,” said the National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial. “For the first time we have a president whose political base is in a city so we feel that he can better understand the issues and concerns of urban America.”—WLW
