Civil rights trailblazer W.E.B. DuBois may have never known how important his writing would be to the advancement of African-Americans in the United States. His groundbreaking book, “The Gift of Black Folk: The Negroes in the Making of America,” published in 1924, examined the stereotypes of African-Americans and documented our numerous achievements. A new edition of the book will be republished to mark the 100th anniversary of the NAACP, Barack Obama’s presidency and Black History Month, according to the Associated Press.—WLW
