'My KKK Friends Will Burn Your Family': White Woman Captured on Body Cam Audio Threatening Black Officer

‘My KKK Friends Will Burn Your Family’: White Woman Captured On Body Cam Audio Threatening Black Officer
By Breanna Edwards · Updated October 23, 2020
A white Florida woman is facing multiple charges after threatening a Black sheriff’s deputy in a racist rant after he arrested her for drunk driving. Body camera audio picked up 53-year-old Julie Edwards telling Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brandon King that her “KKK friends will burn [his] family,” that his “eyes will be poked out.” She railed “the KKK got your ass, boy.” At one point she even asks King if he had ever been whipped. “You should never be here in the first place. You ever been whipped on a whipping post?” she said. According to Buzzfeed, Edwards is now facing charges of making threats against a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence, driving under the influence, and prior refusal to submit to testing. The incident started after King responded to a disturbance at a house in DeLand, Florida. King found Edwards trying to leave the home, but immediately smelled alcohol on her breath and noticed that she was slurring her words. Edwards allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer test or go through a field sobriety test. She attempted to walk away from King after he handcuffed her, and resisted him as he tried to get her into the police car. As King was transporting her, she started her racist rant, repeatedly threatening King. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office released edited footage from King’s camera, quipping, “Before you go on a racist rant, just remember we have body cameras.”

As @SheriffChitwood put it: "Watch this if you need any more proof there's no expiration date on ignorance."

You may have heard someone made racist threats against one of our deputies.

“Hey, ain’t a damn thing wrong with burning a cross in your yard, is there?” Edwards poked. “You f–ked with the wrong white people,” she continues. “N–gers should’ve never been let out of slavery,” she said at one point, according to a police report. “I hope you don’t have no kids,” she threatens in the audio. “You know what’s going to happen to you now? You don’t wanna know. You’re done.” Throughout Edwards’ rant, King remained collected and towards the end even sang along to the radio, ignoring Edwards outright. Sheriff Mike Chitwood praised King on Twitter for his “calm response to all the racist garbage this KKK Enthusiast could throw at him.”

Kudos to Deputy King for his calm response to all the racist garbage this KKK Enthusiast could throw at him.

Great job Deputy & thank you to everyone condemning the hate in this video! https://t.co/RvQ71WFdj4

According to Buzzfeed, Edwards has an arrest record, having been taken into custody twice in 2011 on several charges including resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and a DUI. However, she is currently out in the public after she bonded out of the county jail.
