The First Lady tours campus with students from Chicago public high school.
First Lady Michelle Obama recently surprised a group of Howard University students during the 11th annual Escape to the Mecca college visit tour. According to The Washington Post, Mrs. Obama and rapper Bow Wow toured the campus with 37 students from Chicago public schools to immerse participants in the educational and cultural environment of the Washington D.C. campus.
“This isn’t bad,” the First Lady said as she entered a dorm room in Frazier Hall. “You might be living here. I’m just visiting.”
While there, she posed for photos as Howard students shouted “Michelllllle! First lady! We love you!” through their dorm room windows. Shortly after the tour, a visiting high school student made arrangements to pay the enrollment fee and noted, “this has been the most phenomenal day of my life.”
According to the First Lady’s office, Mrs. Obama requested Bow Wow for the event after meeting him last year on 106th and Park. She praised his commitment to education and encouraged the students to pursue higher education, the Post reports.
