Michelle Obama addressed the class of 2011 last night at West Point’s graduation banquet. This was the First Lady’s first time visiting the military academy, and she delivered a speech to the graduates expressing her dedication to her work with Jill Biden to support military families.
“Soon, you’ll be serving not just for yourselves, and not just for your own families, but for [military] families, too,” First Lady Obama said to the graduates in her speech. “You’ll see again and again that those family relationships are just as important to a soldier’s success as anything that you can provide them in the field.”
First Lady Obama also noted that more than half of service members are married and 40 percent have two or more kids. There were 1,000 cadets and their family members in attendance at the banquet which took place at the U.S. Military Academy.
