Two of televisions major networks have rejected a Lane Bryant ad that features plus-sized models in their underwear.
CBS News reports that the #ThisBody commercial will not air on NBC or ABC due because it has beem demed too racy for TV.
The “mild nudity and a quick shot of a breastfeeding model” is cited to be beyond decency standards for the two networks to air the 30-second slot.
NBC released a statement saying the network would air the commercial under certain stipulations.
“As part of the normal advertising standards process, we reviewed a rough cut of the ad and asked for minor edits to comply with broadcast indecency guidelines,” the statement said. “The ad was not rejected and we welcome the updated creative.”
Lane Bryant, a clothing brand that specializes in plus-sized clothing has adopted body-positive mantras over the course of the last few years to combat the criticism of curvier women, responded to NBC’s edit suggestion in a statement: “”The first edit was turned down out of hand and while we clearly created the commercial to air we will not edit it as we believe it’s a beautiful and appropriate expression of women’s bodies,” the company told Racked. “We do plan to air this through our own media and through digital channels where they find it as acceptable.”
