Kim Porter Speaks About Split from Diddy

Long-time girlfriend says she ended ten-year relationship for her and her family

Former model and actress Kim Porter issued a statement through her rep Marvet Britto confirming her decision to end her relationship with music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, the father of three of her four children.

“After ten years, I have decided to end my on-again/off-again relationship with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. In ending this relationship, I made a decision that was in the best interest of myself, Sean and our family. I look forward to moving on with my life and my career, and wish him prosperity, health and happiness in life and in love. We will remain friends and committed parents to our children.”

During their ten-year relationship, which resulted in three children – son Christian, 9, and six-month old twin daughters D’Lila Star and Jessie James – the couple came under increasing public scrutiny.
Despite the union’s up and downs, the two discussed their love for each other with ESSENCE last December. Kim declared earnestly:
“He’s gentle, giving and sensitive,” she says with a smile, “especially to me. He¹ really a good guy, with a big, big heart. I get to see that. I¹ really thankful I get to see that…But more than that, we could talk to each other about anything. It was very comfortable. What’s enabled us to sustain our relationship is that we can still talk like that. We have a friendship. These days people don’t have the patience to nurture a relationship or a friendship.”

In response to criticism about his inability to offer his longtime girlfriend a serious commitment Sean Combs said: “I know she deserves to get married, but I’m just not ready,” he said. “It’s not a reflection on how much I love Kim. It’s that I’m just learning how to be a good boyfriend. When I’m finished with this step, I’ll move on to the next.”

Porter countered Diddy’s statement with nothing but optimism: “When we do, it’ll be a wonderful thing, a beautiful thing. But that’s just not now. When it’s time we’ll know it, and we’ll do it.”

Porter, who relocated to Los Angeles, with her four children including her teenage son, Quincy, whose father is singer Al B. Sure, has already been on the Tinseltown grind pursuing her acting. The brown beauty has co-starred in hit films such as 2001’s The Brothers; banked small screen time opposite Tatum O’Neal in the CW’s night-time soap drama, Wicked, Wicked Games and will grace the silver screen in the film adaptation of the off-Broadway gospel musical, Mama I Want to Sing, featuring pop princess Ciara and the original play’s protagonist, Desiree Coleman-Jackson, wife of former NBA star Mark Jackson. The film is expected to hit theaters in February 2008.
