Interior design maven and host of HGTV’s “Myles of Style,” Kim Myles, will answer a question submitted from an reader every day. Kim believes that interior design should offer a lifestyle that’s chic, vibrant and attainable for every homeowner or renter. “My goal is to offer simple solutions that help the average person achieve the look that they want without going into debt. There is absolutely no reason for great design to be overly expensive or exclusive,” she declares. Today’s topic: Too many shoes, not enough space Dear Kim, Help! I have tons of shoes–heels, sneakers, winter boots– and nowhere to store them. I am not sure what to do. I see some of my friends keeping them in their original shoe boxes, marking them and keeping them under their bed. But I heard it is not feng shui to store things under the bed. What do you think? KIM MYLES: Full disclosure: I’m not a huge follower of Feng shui. I think that there are definitely some spatial choices that feel better than others, but as an ex-New Yorker, I believe we have to work with what we’ve got. For the record, I think that under-bed storage is genius. Another fun idea would be to treat shoe storage like high-end display. Choose only your prettiest heels, and display them on a series of shelves–it’s a little bit of shoe heaven right in your own room! Read more: Need help selecting furniture for your space?
