On Tuesday night, an anonymous Twitter user threatened to kill all of the Black students at the university
Security is heightened at New Jersey’s Kean University after an anonymous Twitter user began posting threats against the college’s Black students.
Students say that an anonymous Twitter account identified as @keanuagainstblk began tweeting threats while university activists were hosting a forum on Tuesday night to raise awareness about racial tensions on campuses across the country and stand in solidarity with the University of Missouri.
“I will kill every Black male and female at Kean University,” the account tweeted at 10 p.m. ET on Tuesday night.
Yesterday morning, Kean officials responded, opting not to cancel classes but said that they were working with police to identify a suspect.
“Although we have taken appropriate precautions to ensure the safety of our community, we respect your right to use your own best judgment in deciding whether or not to come to campus,” the school said in a statement. “We are profoundly troubled by this display of hatred which does not effect in any way the values we hold sacred on our diverse campus.”
New Jersey police are currently searching for a suspect and are working with the Department of Homeland Security for any potential leads.
