Today, police released documents detailing NFL star Jovan Belcher’s last words before he took his own life on December 1.
According to TMZ, Belcher arrived at the training facility after murdering his girlfriend and the mother of his child, Kasandra Perkins.
Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Piolo told the police Belcher, who was still holding the gun in Piolo’s presence, uttered, “I”m sorry Scott, I’ve done a bad thing to my girlfriend already. I want to talk with Gibbs and Romeo,” reports TMZ.
Belcher continued by saying, “You know that I’ve been having some major problems at home with my girlfriend. I need help! I wasn’t able to get enough help. I appreciate everything you all have done for me with trying to help… but it wasn’t enough. I have hurt my girl already, and I can’t go back now.”
Romeo Crennel, the Chief’s Head Coach, then arrived and begged Belcher to put down his weapon saying, “You’re taking the easy way out.”
The athlete then made a cross sign, blessing himself before firing the gun and ending his own life.
Crennel told authorities he was aware Belcher and his girlfriend were having financial issues. According to him, Perkins wanted to live a better life and expected more because she was a NFL player. Crennel also revealed that Belcher was indeed frugal with his money.
