Join Today’s TWITTER DEBATE: Georgia Rep to Discuss Voting Rights with ESSENCE
Stacey Abrams

Fifty years ago, Mississippi’s Freedom Summer drew African-Americans from across the country to register to vote. After being denied that right for generations, Black people showed up in droves to participate America’s political process. Today, the Black vote is a game changer. What’s more—Black women are leading the voting pack.

Rep. Stacey Abrams of Georgia comes from a family of civil rights crusaders who helped secure voting rights for African-Americans. Today, she is working to ensure that those rights are protected with “The New Georgia Project,” an initiative to increase registration among eligible voters of color and to boost civic engagement.
