It’s hard to believe Blue Ivy was born a year ago today. That early Sunday morning the world woke up to a flurry of tweets and Facebook posts with news that Beyoncé and Jay-Z had finally welcomed their long-awaited little princess to the world. Many called her hip-hop’s first heiress.
Since then, fans and paparazzi have only managed to capture a few glimpses of baby Blue. Most of the images floating around are courtesy of proud mommy Beyoncé, who enjoys taking artistic shots of her daughter—though always neglecting to show her face.
Blue Ivy’s first year wasn’t without controversy. The coupled filed the trademark application weeks after Blue Ivy was born in an effort to protect outsiders from benefiting from her popularity. The power couple went to court to battle over the the legal rights to her birth name, but unfortunately lost to an event planning company, Blue Ivy Events, which had been established since 2009.
Not to forget, Jay-Z dedicated a song to his daughter, “Glory ft. B.I.C” just days after her birth. Blue Ivy’s cries could be heard in the background on the track. “The most amazing feeling I feel/ Words can’t describe what a feeling, for real/ Baby, I’ll paint the sky blue/ My greatest creation was you…,” Jay-Z rapped.
Join us in wishing Blue Ivy a very happy first birthday!
