Halle Berry is urging California lawmakers to support the anti-paparazzi bill that would place harsher punishment on paparazzi who harass celebrities and their children.

Berry testified in court Tuesday asking that the legislation redefine the term harassment to include taking photos and recordings of children without the permission of a legal guardian. The 47-year-old actress went to court on the same matter in late June where she said that these aggressive photographers have made her daughter, 5-year-old Nahla, afraid to go to school.

“My daughter doesn’t want to go to school because she knows ‘the men’ are watching for her,'” Berry told the Assembly Committee on Public Safety.

“They jump out of the bushes and from behind cars and who knows where else, besieging these children just to get a photo.” She continued, “If it passes, the quality of life and my children’s lives will be dramatically changed.”

The bill is expected to be heard in the Assembly Judiciary Committee.

If passed, those convicted of going against the law could possibly face 10 days to one year in jail.
