Halle Berry on Breaking the Domestic Violence Cycle

Halle Berry speaks on breaking the cycle of domestic violence...
Halle Berry: 'I Thought I Wasn't Worth It'
Halle Berry Mayors Fund
By Raval Davis · Updated October 28, 2020
Halle Berry continues to spread awareness about domestic violence.

At a dinner for Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, the 44-year-old actress joined Mayor Bloomberg, Revlon’s Ron Perelman, Mayor’s Fund Co-Chairman Mike Muse and singer Estelle to raise money for the Family Justice Centers.

Berry shared her own story of how watching her mother battered affected her. “When I was a girl and my mother had the s**t kicked out of her, her self-esteem moved onto me,” she said.

“I devalued myself and thought I wasn’t worth it. I chose partners that mimicked my father. It was only when I was in an abusive relationship and blood squirted on the ceiling of my apartment and I lost 80% of my hearing in my ear that I realized, I have to break the cycle.”

She added, “I want women to stand up and break the silence and get rid of the shame and the fear and find a way to stand up for themselves.”

We couldn’t agree more, Halle. Thanks for spreading the message.
