A Waller County, Texas grand jury has declined to indict any police officers involved in the July death of 28-year-old Sandra Bland.
Bland was found dead in her jail cell on July 13, three days after she was arrested during a routine traffic stop. Law enforcement officials say that Bland hung herself with a plastic bag, but family members say that she was not suicidal.
Earlier tonight, special prosecutor Darrell Jordan told the Washington Post that he would not be seeking any charges against Waller County officers. However, he said that the jury would reconvene next month to deliberate undisclosed “remaining issues.”
Hearings in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Bland’s family are scheduled to begin next month.
