We’re still shaking our heads over the absurd news that there’s an anti-Beyoncé protest planned in New York City next week. Some Beyoncé fans were fed up over the news and responded with their own call to action.
It all started when anonymous organizers asked all Beyoncé haters to gather at the National Football League headquarters on Feb 16 to let football officials know that they do not support the message of Bey’s Super Bowl halftime show.
The Eventbrite invitation reads:
“Are you offended as an American that Beyoncé pulled her race-baiting stunt at the Superbowl? Do you agree that it was a slap in the face to law enforcement? Do you agree that the Black Panthers was/is a hate group, which should not be glorified? Come and let’s stand together. Let’s tell the NFL we don’t want hate speech & racism at the Superbowl ever again!”
That clear misinterpretation of the message behind “Formation” and ‘Yonce’s halftime show prompted some fans to boycott the boycott:
“When Black women affirm Blackness/Black womanhood, they are attacked and silenced. This is a counter protest to a racist, ahistorical attack on the Black Panther Party and Beyonce.” The anti-anti-Beyoncé rally is asking supporters to don their best “Formation” attire “to celebrate a very awesome song and #BlackGirlMagic moment.”
Looks like it’s time to get in formation! You ready?
