We spend so much of our teenage years repeating the Fresh Prince’s famous words, “parents just don’t understand.” But as we get a little older and wiser we realize that some of the things dad was telling us were spot-on. With Father’s Day only four days away, we asked our Facebook fans to tell us the biggest lessons they’ve learned from their dads. Here’s what you said. Here’s what you said… Khashan: “Because of how my daddy treated me and how he taught my brothers to treat me — ‘She’s a queen, a rare pearl, so protect her, care for her and always be there for her.’ — I know no other way to be treated by a man.” Jaye: “I am a pastor’s kid and [my father taught me that] honesty, trust and loyalty to God will put you straight.” Jana: “The biggest lesson I learned from my dad is that money doesn’t grow on trees. Having a budget (and sticking to it) will help reduce a lot of stress!” Nicole: “He taught me that life is too short. Enjoy it as much as you can.” Kimberly: “Think with your head and love with your heart.” M Bernard: “Love God, love your wife and your kids, in that order” Alex: “My father taught me to never let my man see my hair in rollers all day long.” Rachel: “I can do anything I want as long as I am willing to work for it. Nothing comes easy.” Davina: “My dad taught me that being kind is more important than being right.” Thomasina: “Don’t let people walk all over you. Stand up for yourself no matter what the circumstances are.” Tiffany: “When I went to college he told me, ‘Be passionate about your career; have a career and not a job.’ It was a good lesson because I love my career.” May: “He used to say, ‘you can’t miss what you can’t measure.’ I really didn’t know what he meant by that, then. Now I know and try to adhere to it.” Trakesha: “He told me, ‘Work hard and you will enjoy the fruits of your labor.'” Myesha: “Never settle for less. Strive for bigger and better.” Erin: “Enjoy life on your own terms!”
