The ESSENCE Music Festival artist says she's aiming for a Thanksgiving release date.
It’s been more than a year since we’ve heard new music from Marsha Ambrosius. Her first solo album, Late Nights & Early Mornings, debuted at no. 2 and earned the British songbird two Grammy nominations. Today, the ESSENCE.com Music Festival performer revealed to ESSENCE.com exclusively that she’s ready to do it once more with the release of her sophomore effort.
“It’s cooked,” beamed Ambrosius with excitement. “It’s a well prepared meal with gorgeous side dishes and snacks. With Late Nights and Early Mornings I was very precise in how I wanted it to be, but with this one, I don’t feel like I’m taking chances. I feel like I can be me now.”
What’s different for the starlet this go-’round is that she’s ready to present a clearer picture of herself. “The first time around it was me showing and proving that I had a lane and an avenue to cover. But this album (she screams with joy), I definitely had to live it to write it.”
When asked what her Marshians (her legions of die-hard fans) can expect, she says she’ll be singing directly to them. “The sound and authenticity is still there. As far as a difference, you will be able to tell I experienced more this time. There is this expectancy there; I know who I’m talking to. I get to target the people I’ve met along the way.”
Despite staying mum about the album title and guest appearances, Ambrosius did reveal that she’s aiming for a Thanksgiving release.
